The Fondation Cartier has been fostering contemporary artists since 1984. Its main purpose has always been to encourage the creation of cutting-edge artworks and to bring them into the public eye. Created by chairman Alain Dominique Perrin and directed by Hervé Chandès, the Fondation Cartier is the first private foundation dedicated to contemporary art in the history of French cultural patronage. Since 1994 its home has been the famous glass and steel building designed by Jean Nouvel at 261 Boulevard Raspail in Paris. Over the years, the Fondation has developed its own highly original style, recognized throughout the international art world.
